Note: “Possession” was the working title for Pawns of Zier.
I’m at the early idea-stage for my latest project, a fantasy novel I’ve given the working-title Possession, and I’m considering settings at the moment. Boy, are there lots of enticing options out there!
A city in the dry, baking-hot desert, maybe:
Or a hot, humid jungle filled with the sounds of insects and animals:
Or maybe this island, where the wind whips across the rocks:
I’m at such early stages, everything is possible! Although the setting impacts (or should impact) all books, it’s an even bigger influence in how fantasy stories takes shape.
City, village, isolation?
War, peace?
Gunpowder? Banking?
It’s easy to get lost in all the fun possibilities!
What are your favorite settings?
